Second Chance Thrift ShoppeFunds raised at the Thrift Shoppe close the gap between the fees provided by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) and the funds needed to provide participants with all the furniture, equipment and supplies needed to meet their highest potential.  Dependent on a core of dedicated, hard-working volunteers, coupled with top-quality donations, the Thrift Shoppe is a perfect example of how caring individuals can transform the quality of life for hundreds of Garden Center participants.

If you enjoy saving money on new and gently used clothes and household items, come and visit our Thrift Shoppe!  While we depend on your generosity in donating items, our focus is on making a meaningful contribution to the adults we serve, so we would appreciate if you adhere to the following donation guidelines:

  • Items in clean, sellable condition with no stains, no smells, no tears and no holes
  • Small working appliances,  but no televisions, no computer equipment, no exercise equipment and no large appliances (i.e. washer, refrigerator)
  • Leather wooden, or vinyl-covered furniture, but no upholstered furniture
  • Clean toys, but no infant car seats, stuffed animals, or painted toys
  • Hardcover books, paperback books, magazines under 1 year old, but no encyclopedias or textbooks
  • Glass items, cups, and dishes without business names
  • Unused bed pillows
  • Artificial Christmas trees are only accepted Oct 1 - Dec 15
  • Bicycles are only accepted Apr 1 – Oct 1

Garden Center Online Store

Garden Center sells products made in our center-based employment program, to teach entrepreneurial skills to participants.  All proceeds from the online store support vocational and residential service needs.  We produce a variety of items, including cards, t-shirts, and water bottles.  Click here to visit our online store now!
