John volunteered from 1991 until 1997 at Garden Center Services, being recognized as WGN Television's Extra Effort Award recipient in February 1994. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2001 and returned to Garden Center the following year as a QHSP before becoming the Director of Information Technology and Physical Plant Operations.
In his role as Director of Information Technology, John helped develop the agency's information network in 2008, which is truly one of the most innovative in the State amongst non-profit providers. Linking all 12 agency locations via T1 lines, VoIP telephony, and a secure data network took over a year from planning to implementation, but proved to be vital to the agency's growth. Today, John spends his days tending to the agency's technological needs, instructing staff and consumers on the benefits of technology, and overseeing maintenance operations for all facilities: which currently include 2 vocational centers, 9 group homes, 2 ICF/DDs and a Thrift Shoppe in Lemont.
