Terry began her nursing career in 1980 after attending Prairie State College and Governor’s State University. She worked at St. James Hospital and Palos Hospital before taking several years off to raise a family. Upon returning to work, she chose a job with an agency for adults with developmental disabilities in Joliet. She realized very quickly that she had found her niche.
Learning and growing in her career has always been important to Terry. After several years of study, she took and passed the exam to become a Certified Developmental Disabilities Nurse Specialist. At that time there were less than 200 CDDNs in the nation. Terry helped to draft legislation to address the issues of medication administration in CILA settings in 1999. She was then chosen to be one of four “Master Nurse Trainers” in the state of Illinois, training other nurses in the state. In the fall of 2006, Terry came as full-time Director of Nursing Services, after being our nurse consultant for a while.
