Garden Apartments Grand Opening & DSP Recognition Week 2026
Garden Apartments are Now Open!
Though we experienced a few sprinkles yesterday, it did not stop us from enjoying a wonderful ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Garden Apartments, a 16-unit apartment building that provides safe, affordable housing for individuals with disabilities.
On what was, just two years ago, a little-used Metra parking lot, there now stands a beautiful new residential building in the Village of Worth. We were honored to welcome an impressive group of speakers, including Mayor Mary Werner of Worth, Congressman Sean Casten, and State Representative Mary Gill.
It was Mayor Werner’s remarks that particularly resonated with me and serve as a fitting transition to discussing the upcoming Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week. Mayor Werner and her husband, Steve, share a driveway with one of our CILA group homes. In fact, it was Mayor Werner herself who informed us more than five years ago that the home next door to her was available for purchase.
During her speech, Mayor Werner spoke with genuine warmth and admiration about the care she has witnessed our DSPs provide to the individuals living in that home. I greatly appreciate her understanding of a simple but important truth: our DSPs are the backbone of this agency. That is why I am excited to share that next week we will join organizations across the country in celebrating Direct Support Professional Recognition Week.
This special week gives all of us an opportunity to recognize the dedicated and compassionate professionals who provide daily support and assistance to the individuals with disabilities whom Garden Center is privileged to serve. We currently employ 79 DSPs, many of whom have been with the agency for several years. We want to do everything we can to demonstrate how much we value their commitment, professionalism, and service.
During DSP Recognition Week, we invite parents, guardians, family members, and friends to join us in expressing our gratitude and respect for these remarkable individuals. Inside this edition of The Leaflet, you will find an article with ideas for showing your appreciation. We are also seeking donations of gift cards to support the many raffle drawings held throughout the week.
Our outstanding Development team, Hailey and Anne, are working tirelessly to prepare for our annual Super Sunny Walk ‘n Roll, which will be held on September 26. This wonderful event brings our community together to celebrate our agency while raising funds that help us continue providing meaningful opportunities and services for the inspiring individuals who participate in our programs.
Thank you for your continued support of Garden Center and the individuals we serve. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy Autumn.
